Catalog #:  V282
Source Antibody:
Rabbit polyclonal antibody for both capture and detection.
Test Format:    DAS ELISA
Reactivity:  Reaction of the ELISA is moderate strong.  Optical Density at 405nm is in a range of 0.500 - 1.400 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.
Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is relatively high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:90 - 1:810.
Specificity:  This test system has no cross reaction with healthy plant tissues tested. Background is very low on the negative control wells.

Information About the Virus
Name: Bean Common Mosaic Necrosis Virus
Acronym:  BCMNV
Genus: Potyvirus
The virus: Virions are nonenveloped flexuous filaments, 12–15 nm wide, and 810–818 nm long. Virions are composed of one single-stranded RNA of c. 9600 nt encapsulated in about 1700–2000 monomer units of one CP polypeptide species with a molecular mass of c. 30 kDa.
Main host plants and Symptoms: BCMNV cause common mosaic and black root diseases, respectively, on P. vulgaris bean cultivars. Symptoms include common mosaic characterized by green vein banding and leaf malformation, and black root characterized by systemic necrosis and plant death.
Transmission: BCMNV are seed and pollen transmitted in common bean genotypes that lack the dominant I gene. Seed-borne inoculum contributes to primary spread, and secondary spread occurs through aphid vectors which transmit virus in a nonpersistent manner.
Geographical Distribution: BCMNV occurs in Eastern Africa, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. They cause significant yield losses that can reach up to 80% (Morales, 2003). Substantial yield losses were reported in mixed infections with BCMV and Bean rugose mosaic virus (BRMV).
