Reactivity: Reaction of the ELISA is moderately strong. Optical Density at 405nm is in a range of 0.700 - 1.750 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.
Sensitivity: Sensitivity of the ELISA is relatively high. The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:270 - 1:810.
Specificity: This test system has no cross reaction with healthy plant tissues tested. Background is low on the negative control wells.

Name: Blackeye cowpea Mosaic Virus
Acronym: BlCMV
Genus: Potyvirus
Synonyms: Bean common mosaic virus - serotype B, bean mosaic virus, bean western
mosaic virus, mungbean mosaic virus.
Main host plants and diseases: Phaseolus vulgaris, Phaseolus coccineus - tolerant cultivars develop mosaic and malformation; sensitive ones show rugosity of lower leaves, mosaic, malformation of leaves and pods.
Transmission: Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Acyrthosiphon pisum, Aphis craccivora, A. fabae, Myzus persicae and other spp.; Aphididae. Transmitted in a non-persistent manner. Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation, and transmitted by seed or by pollen to the seed
Geographical Distribution: Probably distributed worldwide (in Phaseolus beans wherever they are grown). Spreads in China and the USA.
