Catalog #:  V286
Source Antibody:
Rabbit polyclonal antibody for both capture and detection.
Test Format:    DAS ELISA
Reactivity:  Reaction of the ELISA is moderate strong.  Optical Density at 405nm is in a range of 0.300 – 1.300 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.
Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is relatively high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:90 - 1:810.
Specificity:  This test system has no cross reaction with healthy plant tissues tested. Background is low on the negative control wells.

Information About the Virus
Name: Sweet Potato Mild Mottle Virus
Acronym:  SPMMV
Genus: Ipomovirus
The virus: SPMMV is first reported in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania by Sheffield in 1957. The virion is filamentous with length of 800-950 nm. Viral genome consists of single-stranded RNA containing 5 % nucleic acid and 95 % protein.
Main host plants and Symptoms: SPMMV infects sweet potato showing mild leaf mottling and stunting in intolerant cultivars, but symptomless infection in others. Some cultivars are immune.
Transmission: The virus is transmitted by a insect vector, whitefly (Bemisia tabaci, Aleyrodidae) in a persistent manner. Virus is also transmitted by mechanical inoculation and by grafting. It is not transmitted by contact between plants, and not transmitted by seed.
Geographical Distribution: SPMMV is spread in Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, and possible some other regions in the worlds.
