Tobacco Etch Virus (TEV) - DAS ELISA Home Products Testing Services Supplies Contact Us
Catalog #: V140
Source Antibody: Rabbit polyclonal antibody for both capture and detection.
Test Format: DAS ELISA
Reactivity: The test reacted with all TEV isolates tested. Reaction of the ELISA is strong. Optical Density at 405nm is in arrange of 1.200 - >2.900 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.
Sensitivity: Sensitivity of the ELISA is high. The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:810 - 1:2430.
Specificity: There is no cross reaction with healthy plant tissues such as tobacco, tomato or other host plants. Background is very low on all of the negative control wells.
Application: The test can be used to detect TEV in infected host plants.

Information About the Virus
Name: Tobacco Etch Virus
Acronym: TEV
Synonyms: datura Z virus, tobacco severe etch virus, tomato etch virus
Group/Genus: Potyvirus
Vector: Transmitted by a vector; an insect; more than 10 spp., especially Myzus persicae; Aphididae. Transmitted in a non-persistent manner. Virus does not require a helper virus for vector transmission.
Transmission: Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by seed.
Main host plants: Many natural host plants including Cassia obtusifolia, Capsicum annuum, Datura stramonium, Lycopersicon esculentum, Nicotiana tabacum, and Physalis spp.
Virus Infection: Symptoms persist and may be strain-dependant. Symptoms varies, including necrotic leaf etching, leaf mottling and distortion, mosaic, vein banding, malformation and necrosis, stunting and reduced seed yield.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms: Chenopodium album, C. amaranticolor and C. quinoa - local chlorotic or necrotic lesions, not systemic; Datura stramonium - systemic mosaic, ringspots, rugosity and leaf malformation
Geographical distribution: Spreads in the Eastern Asian region and the South and Central American region; Canada, China, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and the USA.
