Catalog #: V183
Source Antibody: Rabbit polyclonal antibody for both capture and
detection.
Test Format: DAS ELISA
Reactivity: The test reacted with all YMV isolates tested.
Reaction of the ELISA is moderate strong. Optical Density at 405nm
is in arrange of 0.750 - 2.850 depending
on the virus titer in the samples tested.
Sensitivity: Sensitivity of the ELISA is moderate high.
The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted
at 1:810.
Specificity: There is no cross
reaction with healthy plant tissues such as rice and other host
plants. Background is
relative low on all of the
negative control wells.
Application: The test can be used to detect YMV in infected
host plants.

Acronym: YMV
Synonyms: clover mosaic virus, pea wilt virus (Bos et al., 1959;
Johnson, 1942)
Group/Genus: Potyvirus
Vector: Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Aphis craccivora, A.
gossypii, Rhopalosiphum maidis, Toxoptera citricidus; Aphididae. Transmitted
in a non-persistent manner.
Transmission: Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not
transmitted by contact between plants; not transmitted by seed (is by vegetative
propagation).
Main host plants: Dioscorea alata, D. cayenensis, D. dumetorum, D.
praehensilis, D. preussii, D. rotundata.
Virus Infection: Cause symptoms of mosaic, vein banding.
Symptoms disappear soon after infection.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms: Nicotiana
benthamiana - faint systemic chlorosis and mosaic; Dioscorea cayenensis,
D. praehensilis - systemic mosaic and vein banding.
Geographical distribution: Spreads in the
African region (in the west); Guadeloupe and Guyana.
